Greening the Country,
Community by Community

We all feel overwhelmed by the enormity of Climate Change but if we all just focus on our own community, we can create a patchwork of ‘green communities’ right across the country. It’s up to us!

Greening the Country,
Community by Community

We all feel overwhelmed by the enormity of Climate Change but if we all just focus on our own community, we can create a patchwork of green communities right across the country.
It’s up to us!

The Greening Campaign

The Greening Campaign tackles climate change at a community level where everyone is included, everyone has a voice and everyone has a valued role to play.  The Greening Campaign is for the community, led by the community, always with the aim to provide space for the most vulnerable to have the loudest voice.

We provide a proven handrail supporting communities to tackle all aspects of Climate Change, bringing with us expert organisations to help make real changes such as reducing energy use and creating space for nature.

Uniquely, we make community action visible, championing action in every type of home. As a not-for-profit, over the last 15 years we’ve helped more than 200 communities make a measurable difference using our distinctive and trusted programme.

Our Vision

The Greening Campaign envisages communities where residents use less energy and have lower bills; waste is prevented by  reducing, reusing, or sharing; nature can move freely along natural corridors in and between gardens; communities grow more of their own, climate-resistant food; are resilient against climate impacts such as flooding and heatwaves; and families and individuals are healthier and happier.

How it works

The Greening Campaign is a handrail for communities to use to guide and support them to tackle various aspects of climate change action. We often find that the handrail provides the confidence needed in spaces where communities want to see real change on the ground, and where communities want tangible results without wondering which way to turn. Communities set off using our handrail as a guide, lead their own action, and develop and shape the support to fit with their own needs. Sitting along the handrail are expert organisations to provide support on areas such as governance, policies, and social media. Our key partners are specialist organisations who bring their expertise direct to communities to support effective action on 5 different climate change topics –  and we call them the 5 Pillars.

Most importantly is our guidance on ‘Engagement’ – bringing all community voices together to be loud and heard. Our support enables those most at risk from climate impacts to have a voice, those most vulnerable in society to be part of the action and planning, and our support gives residents the skills and confidence to make real change on the ground where they live. Every time we work with a community ………. we learn, and every bit of learning is captured to share with others.

Engage your community

We bring everyone together at the start of the journey.  We particularly want those who will be most affected by climate change to have a voice – the vulnerable.

We provide personal support to find the voices, raise the voices, and learn about who we have in the room. We feel it is important for any person whether skilled or not, to feel they can lead their community as part of a unit for change.  A change that supports everyone.

Our specialist Engagement pack provides the fundamental and most important steps to building a successful Greening Campaign ……. in our eyes success is people working together to achieve their aims, in their community.

Five Pillars

Using the specialist packs and working with funded expert support, your community will create effective change in the 5 Pillars:

  • Create or improve ‘Space for Nature’
  • Develop support for ‘Energy Efficient Warmer Homes’
  • Raise awareness & protect from the ‘Health Impacts of Climate Change’
  • Engage in effective ‘Waste Prevention’
  • Improve understanding of food security, growing your own food, the importance of Heritage Seeds ‘Cycle of the Seed’

Communities Together

Whilst bringing support to each community, we also bring communities together to share their knowledge. We have monthly ‘Greening Connections’ online meetings, where anyone from any community can join us for a chat with others or hear about a requested topic. We run Mini Conferences focused on a particular Pillar where all people from any community come together to share knowledge and passion, and we run a yearly Greening Campaign Conference where everyone attends workshops and enjoys learning about the work in other communities …. contacts get swapped and friendships and partnerships are born.

We don’t just bring communities together, we link communities with District and Borough Councils, with County Council, with other action groups and experts – we bring joined up action and learning.

If you would like to understand more, please contact us to arrange a time to chat.
