The 5 Pillars
Greening Communities take action on five different climate change topics – we call them the 5 Pillars: Space for Nature, Health Impacts of Climate Change, Energy Efficient Warmer Homes, Waste Prevention and Cycle of the Seed.
Our pillar experts support each pillar group with their extensive knowledge and guidance in each of these subjects.

The 5 Pillars
We support you to sign your community members up to a pillar of their choice. Each pillar group works with our experts to engage the wider community on a range of activities related to their pillar.
Space for Nature
Through this pillar we support you to transform spaces in your community into wild and green spaces to explore- increasing biodiversity and capturing carbon through nature.
Energy Efficient Warmer Homes
To reduce our energy consumption at home we first need to see where energy leaves our homes. Our Energy Efficient Warmer Homes programme does just that. We partner on this pillar with the Environment Centre, bringing you and your community easy solutions and information on grants available to reduce energy loss and energy bills. Simple changes save money and CO2. his is an important pillar that responds to the energy and cost of living crises.
Health Impacts of Climate Change
A changing climate brings challenges for our health- particularly impacting those more vulnerable in our society. To face these new challenges we need to be informed, and work together as communities. We support you to raise awareness and keep your community safe in changing times.
Cycle of the Seed
Supported by Garden Organic, this inspiring programme aims to encourage food growing in your community, open discussion around food security, and bring education around issues connected to soil health. Signing up to this pillar also brings privileged access to the National Seed Bank.
Waste Prevention
This pillar is not about recycling waste, but rather about how we stop anything going into any bin- that’s waste prevention! As part of this pillar, you are supported to undertake a whole range of activities from Garden Organic, supported by Hampshire County Council’s Waste Prevention Team.
