Well done to Greening Bishops Waltham for planting 415 new hedgerow plants with the help of Wilder Bishops Waltham and local residents! This new hedgerow will provide much needed nesting, foraging and corridors for the wonderful wildlife there.
Hedgerows support an amazing diversity of plants and animals, providing wildlife with a rich larder throughout the year. As well as providing food and shelter, they’re also good for the landscape and the wider environment, preventing soil erosion, capturing pollutants such as fertilisers and pesticides running off fields, assisting with water regulation, storing carbon to help combat climate change, and providing homes for predators of many pest species.
The team will be back to do some mulching in the next few weeks. And in a few years, the plants would have grown enough for some hedge laying. Excellent work, we need more hedgerows!
