The first step to increasing biodiversity in any community starts with a walk.
Our Space for Nature pillar, supported by Hampshire and IOW Wildlife Trust, helps communities tackle climate change and support nature recovery by improving and creating habitats that will help wildlife survive and thrive as well as create areas that capture and offset carbon. Every community is different and unique – it may be urban or rural, have parks, roadside verges, woodlands, wetlands, ponds or roundabouts.
Denmead held their mapping walk in May with the aim of:
- Identify existing wildlife and habitats
- Locate areas for improvement and habitat creation
- Create a community action plan to make space for nature in Denmead
As a result of the mapping walk, HIWWT created a report specifically for Denmead which details the existing habitats, areas for potential habitat to be created and recommended actions – so a great tool for the community to use and to plan what to do next, so all very exciting!
