As part of our Energy Efficient Warmer homes pillar, we provide thermal imaging cameras for communities to take images of their homes. Instead of picking out different elements of light to capture a photograph, the thermal imaging captures different levels of heat.
The different levels of heat are shown in a range of colours. Usually the white, yellow and red are warmest, and the blue and black are coldest.
The thermal images help people understand where heat loss is likely to be escaping from their home. This is great for spotting where some extra loft insulation or some draft excluders are needed, and also if major works such as cavity wall insulation need addressing.
The winter is the busiest month for the thermal imaging teams and all of our communities have been trained and are ready to spot the heat loss in their local homes.
To show how a thermal imaging camera works, and to add a bit of fun, Greening Fleet and Eastleigh Town Greening Campaign have demonstrated how the cameras work on people, rabbits and even a Grinch too!
